L'osservatore Romano is het half officiële dagblad van het Vaticaan en publiceert wekelijks in meerdere talen. Waarin al is enige bezorgdheid werd geuit omtrent de mogelijke negatieve impact van rock muziek op de maatschappij.

"Some evangelical groups have expressed concern at the subliminal presence of what they claim is Satanic symbolism in some varieties of rock music, which have a powerful influence on young people. This is all far removed from the message of peace and harmony which is to be found in the New Testament; it is often one of the consequences of the exaltation of humanity when that involves the negation of a transcendent God." Op 15 februari publiceerden ze een eigen lijst van de beste 10 pop en rock albums.  Waaronder zich welliswaar geen enkele zogenaamde Christelijke Rock groep bevind.  Maar zeker niet afdoet aan de namen die op het overzicht staan.  Opvallend is wel dat er op sommige van die platen via backmasking, zoals eerder aangehaald eveneens van satanisme werden beticht, maar waar nu niet meer bij stil lijkt gestaan te worden.
